Art

  • Vision
I consider myself making art when I'm free of restrictions, be it social, ethical or practical. It does not need to serve anything, except some kind of 'evolution', which may, or may not be personal. Art, to me is a way of dealing with 'big' questions, by living those questions up while making art. What interests me is questioning, not the question. You could say my work is the body to my doubts and musings. I'm interested in psychology and mythology, the stream of consciousness, nevertheless I can also work in a more conceptual way. Finding a balance between ratio and emotion often leads to unexpected results. Concerning visions on art, I've been influenced by writers like Boris Groys, Walter Benjamin, Merlau-Ponty, Joseph Kosuth, Clement Greenberg and others.
  • Media
In the past I've worked with both painting and photography, and the computer, new media. This has influenced my vision on painting tremendously. There has been a time that I'd given up on painting entirely. It was a time when I was doubting to much over my work instead of in my work. Now, I have left all representational issues over to photography and computer design, and decided that painting is more suited for invention rather then representation. Taking back up painting has been liberating in many ways. It has been the closest action to bring body and mind together. While painting, the mind becomes body. I've tried to achieve this in other media as well, but never got even near the synergy I got when painting. Concerning visions on art, I've been influenced by writers like Boris Groys, Walter Benjamin, Merlau-Ponty, Joseph Kosuth, Clement Greenberg and others.
